Jacob Kirkegaard - 4 Rooms

Artist: Jacon Kirkegaard
Album: 4 Rooms
Genre: Minimalism, Drone, Field Recordings
Information: This work is a sonic presentation of four deserted rooms inside the 'Zone of Alienation' in Chernobyl, Ukraine, recorded in October 2005.

The sound of each room was evoked by an elaborate method: Kirkegaard made a recording of 10 minutes and then played the recording back into the room, recording it again. This process was repeated up to ten times. As the layers got denser, each room slowly began to unfold a drone with various overtones.

From a technical point of view, Kirkegaard's "sonic time layering" refers back to Alvin Lucier's work "I am sitting in a room" [1970]. He recorded his voice in a space and repeatedly played this recording back into that same space. In Kirkegaard's work, however, no voice is being projected into the rooms: during the recordings he left the four spaces, to wait for whatever might evolve from the silence.

Melvins - (A) Senile Animal

Artist: Melvins
Album: (A) Senile Animal
Genre: Sludge metal, Stoner rock
Information: One of the most influential sludge groups of all time, Melvins have been rocking the scene since 1983, and to this day continue to release amazing releases. This specific album, (A) Senile Animal, is certainly not the pinnacle of their work (that would be Houdini) but is nonetheless an absolute must listen by them.

Lionel Marchetti & Seijiro Murayama - Hatali Atsalei (L'échange Des Yeux)

Artist: Lionel Marchetti & Seijiro Murayama
Album: Hatali Atsalei (L'échange Des Yeux)
Genre: Musique concrète
Information: For his second Intransitive album, Lionel Marchetti returns to his favorite subject: the modern musique concrète composer as shaman. Amid an atmosphere of heavy mystery and engrossing, sublime confusion, Hatali Atsalei (L’Echange des Yeux) seems to be informed by radio drama, improvisation, and documentary recording. According to Olivier Capparos’ liner notes, the album provides a “rather faithful” experience of Ancient Greek ritual: Hatali Atsalei, the exchange of eyes.

Aranos - Making Love In Small Spaces

Artist: Aranos
Album: Making Love In Small Spaces
Genre: Avant-folk, Experimental music, musique concrète
Information: Aranos (pronounced Aranyosh, real name Petr Vaštl) was born in Bohemia (now a part of Čechy, Czech Republic). He has performed as a singer and instrumentalist since the age of 8 in folk ensembles, jazz bands, rock groups, gypsy bands, ceilidh bands and as a solo artist. Written and composed in various styles from classical music to rock. This album is a perfect starting point for his intimidating discography, and provides the listener with a nice idea of how he blends avant-garde music and traditional folk arrangements into a very esoteric and intriguing sound.

Saade - You Are Coming Home

Artist: Saade
Album: You Are Coming Home
Genre: Stoner Rock
Information: Saade (formerly Sade) is a two-piece rock band based in Prague, Czech republic, formed in 2009. The band’s sound is heavy, deriving influences from 70s hard rock, 90s grunge, psychedelic and stoner rock, with deep guitarlines and blues-inspired feeling. I was first exposed to this band when I attended a Boris concert in August 2010. They were a back-up band that came in due to Russian Circles being unable to perform, due to being stranded in Louisiana after their bus got wrecked. I have to say, for a two piece band, they are really something else. It's surprisingly how these two guys, with their very odd DIY artwork can still have the power and drive of more famous stoner acts.

Caroliner (Rainbow Open Wound Chorale) - Rise Of The Common Woodpile

Artist: Caroliner Rainbow Open Wound Chorale (Tag as Caroliner, please <3)
Album: Rise Of The Common Woodpile
Genre: Industrial Bluegrass, Avant-garde, Psychedelic Noise
Information: Formed in 1983 by the elusive Grux, Caroliner is an experimental collective of musicians who perform covers of songs originally by a singing bull of the same name from the 1800's.  When asked about this peculiar creature, the member B'sau-Sau responded, "Well the original Singing Bull was from back in the 1800’s… this gal had a singing bull on a ranch. She took it around, it sang all these songs, it could pick up songs, you’d relay these songs to it and then it would get it back to you, it would sing it back to you… so what she did is, she took it around, took it to all these mine camps, made a small little amount of money, you know, and entertained people. …she goes back to the ranch, there’s nothin’ to eat, everything’s gone to hell, there’s no food, nothin’, so she cuts up Caroliner and eats it, wraps it in its own skin and it keeps on singin'"

John Zorn - Madness, Love and Mysticism

Artist: John Zorn
Album: Madness, Love and Mysticism
Genre: Avant-garde, Contemporary classical, Free jazz
Description: Definitive performances of three dynamic new chamber pieces pushing the boundaries of virtuosity and intensity. Le Mômo, for violin and piano is a work of extremes, a ritual about exorcism and possession inspired by the works of visionary 20th Century shaman Antonin Artaud. Untitled, dedicated to Joseph Cornell, the hermetic New York artist whose delirious box constructions mix innocent nostalgia with uncomfortable personal obsessions, is a tour de force for solo cello brilliantly performed by Erik Friedlander. The piano trio Amour Fou explores love—obsessive love, mad love, doomed love in a compendium of moods ranging from Buñuel to Bataille, Scriabin to Messiaen. A mysterious and romantic new direction from John Zorn.

Andrew Liles - My Long Accumulating Discontent

Artist: Andrew Liles
Album: My Long Accumulating Discontent
Genre: Experimental, Industrial, Dark ambient
Description: One of the many recurring guests for Current 93 and Nurse With Wound, Andrew Liles also has quite the successful solo career, specializing in haunting blends of experimental music a la early Nurse With Wound and chilling dark ambient soundscapes, which rival Akira Yamaoka's masterfully crafted atmospheres. This album, My Long Accumulating Discontent, Is a compilation of seventeen tracks recorded in 2004. I highly recommend this album for fans of early industrial music, sound collage fanatics, and of course experimental thrill seekers.

Mamaleek - Fever Dream (Introductory Post)

Artist: Mamaleek
Album: Fever Dream
Genre: Psychedelic Black Metal, Experimental Black Metal
Description: An interesting and certainly esoteric band, Mamaleek are two brothers from California who create their own special blend of black metal, which takes elements from jazz, folk, tribal music, and ambient textures, and adds it all into a very unique and strangely beautiful culmination of artistic expression. This album, Fever Dream, derives all of it's lyrics from traditional slave songs, which can be viewed here: Marcus Brinkman — Slave Songs

Hello to everyone! This is my crappy shareblog. Posts will most likely be very sproadic or slow at first, but once I get the hang of it, I'll be sure to make the page look much nicer, and I'll make these posts seem much more professional.

Look forward to sharing music,
